The dream of having children is the dream and goal of all those who seek to build or create a family, it is how life goes and a desire created by God in human beings.
The human body needs to be of a suitable weight to ensure the health of the reproductive organs and sexual health as obesity causes a lot of trouble and problems due to excess weight, which makes the process of reproduction difficult or almost impossible for some people if they do not get rid of obesity.
How can obesity lead to delayed pregnancy?
- For women:
The higher the body mass index, the more difficult it is to get pregnant, that's because obesity causes hormonal imbalance in cases like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), resulting from extreme weight gain, in which case the woman must get rid of obesity in order to get rid of the ovarian cysts and allows the pregnancy to occur.
Obesity not only delays natural pregnancy to occur, but also reduces the chances of successful IVF.
- For men:
The weight of a man is as important as the weight of the woman in relation to the subject of reproductive and sexual health, excess weight causes erectile dysfunction, which negatively affects the chance of reproduction.
As waist size increases in men, testosterone levels in the body decrease, reducing the chances of having children.
Obesity also has a negative impact on sperm in terms of count and movement, which reduces the fertility rate in men and makes reproduction difficult, so the only solution is to get rid of obesity first to ensure the success of the reproductive process.
So what happens if a woman who is obese gets pregnant?
The difficulty of a pregnancy to happen in the presence of obesity matches the difficulty of a pregnancy that occurs to an obese woman. Because obesity exposes the mother and child to dangers throughout pregnancy.
Complications of obesity for a pregnant woman include:
1-High blood pressure may affect body function vitality and may lead to damage some important organs and the first organ to be affected is the kidneys which is called pre-eclampsia.
2-Gestational diabetes, which means high blood sugar rate during pregnancy specially if the pregnant woman is obese and sometimes diabetes continues after giving birth to the child.
3-Problems and risks during childbirth, which causes doctors to urge the obese lady to undergo a caesarean section to reduce the risk for the mother and the child.
