Meals after Bariatric Surgery

It is normal that after the Bariatric Surgeries , the person adheres to a diet specified by the attending doctor to protect the person from indigestion or pain after eating or vomiting, and here we will display the diet followed by Dr. Wael Shaalan.
On the day of the operation, the person is in a state of fasting for eating, drinking and smoking 24 hours from the night of the operation and nothing is taken in the mouth except with the clear instructions of Dr. Wael or one of his assistants.

Following the diet after Bariatric Surgeries has several objectives:

1- To get used to eating small amounts of food, easy to digest and safe.
2- To help you lose weight and not to regain it.
3- To allow the staple line to heal without stretching your stomach due to food.
4- To avoid side effects and complications.

Phase 1... Clear transparent liquids:

This stage begins the morning after the operation and lasts ten days in which the transparent fluids of light texture and do not contain any pieces or crumbs. 
• Start the morning after the operation by eating a warm anise using a teaspoon at the rate of a teaspoon every 5 minutes and then continue in other liquids at the same rate, it is normal to feel some pain in the upper abdomen when drinking.
• Do not drink water directly from the cup or from the bottle on the first day and do not use the shalimo at this stage, start drinking from the cup directly on the second day of the operation.
• Drink about 1.5 liters of liquids for the first 24 hours and you can also suck ice cubes continuously.
 The liquids of the first stage include:
1- Pure fresh or canned juices such as apples and pineapples, preferably fresh juices not sweetened with white sugar.
2- Soup or chicken broth or meat without any pieces or orzo soup and is used filterto filter the broth without adding or using any open cubes for the broth or spices.
3- Skimmed milk from the fifth day.
4- Hibiscus, anise, croissants, tea, Nescafe and the like warm and sweetened with diet sugar.
• All soft drinks, alcohol, mint and effervescents are strictly forbidden.

Phase 2... Full fluid phase:

The second phase of the 11th day begins and lasts 10 days. You can add to the above all the full and heavy fluids such as:
1- orzo soup.
2- All fresh juices without filtering.
3- Vegetable soup provided that it is completely mature and be multiplied in a blender and have the majority broth.
4- Mallow (little garlic).
5- Oat meal, lentils, cream, etc.
6- All kinds of milkshakes using all kinds of fruits are no longer fruits with high sugar factories such as (grapes- dates - mango-figs) provided that the shake does not contain pieces but is completely liquid.
7- Jelly, yogurt, yogurt, well-sourcing, juices and guaf.

Phase 3... Mashed food:

This phase starts on the 21st day and lasts 10 days. And you can eat all of the above and add everything you want provided that it is well mashed food and be in the strength of the purée such as:
1- Purian potatoes.
2- Purian sweet potatoes.
3- Yogurt salad, baba ghannoug and chickpea salad.
4- Tuna and grilled fish mashed with a fork well.
5- Fried or boiled eggs well mashed with forks.
6- Rice with milk, jelly, pudding without extravagance because it contains high calories , using diet sugar.

phase four. Soft natural eating:

This phase begins on the 31st day and lasts five days and the stomach is prepared for natural food training. You can now eat normal food with the addition of some broth or soup to it to be soft or choose the types of soft foods by nature.

General Guidelines:

1- Eating balanced meals in small quantities.
2- Keep a daily record of your dietary and calorie intake.
3- Slowly and chew small bites of food well.
4- Avoid rice, bread, raw vegetables, fresh fruits, meat that is not easily chewed, such as steak. 
5- Do not drinking straws, drink soda drinks or eat ice. It can cause air to enter the stomach, leading to discomfort and discomfort.
6- Avoid sugar, sugary foods and beverages, concentrated sweets in the first two months after the operation, the calories consumed daily should be between 300 and 600 calories.
7- Daily calorie consumption should not exceed 1000 calories.

Possible problems and their solutions after the Gastric sleeve surgery:

1- Vomiting:
You should not feel nauseous after gastric sleeve surgery . But if you feel it, it could be:
1- You ate large quantities very quickly.
2- You did not chew your food well.
3- You had a drink shortly after you finished eating.

2- Constipation:
If you suffer from it, check whether you drink liquids in sufficient quantities, you should take two and a half liters a day. Choose high fiber foods such as whole grain products, fruits, and vegetables. Regular exercise also relieves constipation.
